Liese Gardner has worked in the communications field for more than 20 years. Her background, education and experience in media and marketing is diverse.

After obtaining a degree in journalism, Gardner began her career on staff at Los Angeles’ award-winning alternative newspaper, The L.A. Weekly. She then joined Special Events Magazine where she was associate publisher and editor for 13 years. The freedom the company gave her to explore a variety of different media fed Gardner’s creative and entrepreneurial spirit. In addition to writing and editing the 60-plus page monthly magazine, she directed annual and monthly promotional campaigns directed at the magazine’s advertisers and readers.

In 1995, Gardner was honored with a Maggie Award for this work; specifically, a four-color direct mail marketing piece created for a summer advertising promotion.

In addition to being editor, Gardner also took on the position of Director of Education of The Special Event, Special Event Magazine’s convention and tradeshow. As Director of Education, Gardner created, coordinated and produced more than 75 seminars each year and was integral in the marketing the show using advertising, direct-mail and brochures.

In 1998, Gardner left Special Events Magazine and formed Mecca, A Communications Destination. Based on her experience with the industry, Gardner knew that a marketing firm could help many event professionals better position themselves and increase their exposure in select markets. As owner of the first public relations, marketing and advertising agency to serve the special event industry, Gardner puts all her previous knowledge to use, employing a diverse range of media and techniques to help event professionals create a strong identity, image and message, define their marketplace and focus and promote their companies and services effectively.

Today, Mecca represents a wide range of clients, from event professionals to creative businesses and individuals such as artists, designers and architectural photographers.
